About This Site
Welcome
to Some Songs. As you might have noticed, this is a fan
site dedicated to the music of Elliott Smith and Heatmiser. This site, as originally imagined, was to be merely a download site for Elliott Smith concert recordings. However, early on in the coding of this site, I realized a discography section would add greatly to the usability of the site. I had seen many threads on Sweet Adeline's Message Board asking where various Elliott Smith songs heard in live concerts or downloaded from the internet were from. It seemed logical to link the setlists with discography information. And at the time I figured "Why not just throw in lyrics as well?" Why not? Oh, perhaps because half of the lyrics are very difficult to make out and some songs (i.e. Cupid's Trick) weren't meant to be understood. In mid April 2004, I received a message from Jim Miles (the incredible singer/songwriter) informing me that what had been pretty much the only Heatmiser fan page (archived here) had disappeared from the net. He asked me if I planned on having a heatmiser section to my site. By this point I had already included the heatmiser discography information in the sites database, so I figured "Why not?" and thus the site started to go into more areas unplanned originally. Hosted by : A Small Orange Database: mySQL Scripting: PHP Server: Apache This site would not exist without the help and encouragement of several people: Rebekah Daubenspeck - my fiance who put up with my several dozen hours of coding and several hundred more of research and html. Not to mention my purchasing of about $200 worth of Elliott/Heatmiser related items for the discography Jim Miles - good friend and compatriot who sent me several concerts, a rare Elliott interview, and provided some great information. He also happens to be a great guitarist. Buy his stuff. Joel Martin - another good friend and artist. He is responsible for some of the art featured on this site as well as many helpful and unhelpful criticisms that made this site what it is today. Charlie - The man with the vision behind Sweet Adeline, the greatest source of information on Elliott Smith. He has been extraordinarily helpful with information and words of support. The greatest guy ever. He also happens to be THE CHARLIE. Anjy - She sent me several DVD videos of Elliott shows, and thus earned a place in my heart. Scott/PreciousOnlySon - He sent me several Elliott shows. Chris Hallbeck (falderal) - created the logos you see at the top of this page and on our message board. Many thanks Chris! I would also like to thank all of the people who tape concerts and are kind enough to share it with the world. This site is dedicated to the memory of Elliott Smith. |
